This is a copy of the letter that was sent to every Imig on Monday April 14, 2008. All letters had a self-addressed stamped envelope included.
Dear Fellow Imigs,
My name is Cori Imig and I am a senior at the Savannah College of Art and Design. I will be graduating this May with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in the field of Fibers. I am in the process of putting together my senior thesis where I will be showing my current work. My work revolves around the ideas of movement, path tracking and mapping. Looking at these ideas in an unconventional context I hope to expand the definition of each and by doing so create a network that may not previously have had the opportunity to be established. I am requesting your participation in a project that has the capacity to create these connections. I have sent this letter to every Imig I found on a simple Internet search on www.whitepages.com. There are only 276 listings. After realizing there is such a small population of Imig’s living in the U.S. I became interested in creating a communication between all of us, and at the same time examining the areas that the Imig’s have decided to inhabit. All that is necessary for your participation in the project is to write me a sentence about yourself. This sentence can include any information that you decide to share: your profession, what you did today, or even as simple as what you ate for breakfast.
There is a blog that has been started to document the progression of this experiment and provides a venue for everyone to become an active participant, http://coimig.wordpress.com. As the sentences come in I will post them on the blog so that everyone will be able to learn and become a part of the Imig family that surrounds us. The entire process from beginning to completion will be documented there.
I would like to have all the sentences by the end of April to start organizing them in a comprehensive manner before my thesis show at the end of May, but I will gladly accept them after that date as well. I would be happy to respond to any questions or comments that you may have; coimig20@student.scad.edu. Your participation in this project would be greatly appreciated!
