Hi Cori—

I just stumbled across your website/blog/IMIG project. Just wanted to drop you a line. I am Mark Imig. I grew up in Plano, TX with parents Ann and Wally (Walter) Imig and sister Kelly Imig. I moved to Fort Worth, TX for college at TCU. I worked in an adolescent psychiatry hospital in Plano, TX for about 9 months and then served in youth ministry at Christ United Methodist Church (also in Plano, TX) for 2 and a half years. After that, I went to medical school in Galveston, TX for 4 years. After graduating medical school, I moved to Rochester, Minnesota where I’m currently training in psychiatry. I was recently married to my amazing wife Mira Keddis. Let me know if you need any more information.

Dear Cori -

I apologize about not writing sooner, but have been extremely busy over the past couple of months, culminating with a family trip back to Germany and Austria the end of May and first week of June.

Unfortunately I did not get the chance to visit the family home area around Pfalzdorf, mostly due to the fact that I could not find the genealogy book that had the town name in it.
I discovered it after we got home, and realized that we were staying only a few kilometers south of there. I am rather disappointed with myself about that.

First, let me bring you up to speed on this particular branch of the Imig Family.

My name is John Warner Imig, I am 39 years old and live in Peoria (greater Phoenix), Arizona.

My Great-Grandfather’s part of the family originated in Seward, Nebraska (after the family emigrated from Germany). My Great-Grandfather was Louis Imig, a travelling hat salesman. He was born sometime in the early 1880’s. My Grandfather was Warner Louis Imig, born in Sioux City, Iowa in 1913 and died in Mesa, Arizona in 2005 at the age of 92. He was a graduate of Yankton College in Yankton, SD, with a degree in Music. He and my Grandmother moved to Boulder, Colorado in the 1930′s, when he got a teaching job (and eventually went on to become Dean of Music) at the University of Colorado-Boulder from 1937 to 1978, when he retired. The School of Music at CU-Boulder is named after him. He married Norma Rapalee (sp?) in 1937. They had three children: Warner Gerry Imig (my Father), born 1940 in Boulder, CO, died 1991 in Denver, CO; Betsy Jill Imig, born 1942, lives in Boulder; Jenny Lynn Imig, born 1945, lives in Denver. My Father married my mother, Virginia Louise Norris in 1965 in Boulder. I was born in 1968 in Salida, Colorado. I have one sister, Sarah (lives in Denver), who was born in 1970 in Salida, CO. I married Carin Elaine Kish in 1993 in Lakewood, Colorado. We have two children, Bradley Warner, born in Denver in 1998 and Brian David, born in Glendale, Arizona in 2002. Bradley is the 4^th generation of Imig to have the name Warner. My wife and I relocated to Arizona in early 2000 to get a change of pace, and are planning on staying here at least until we retire in the next 10 years or so. I recently completed by Master of Science Degree in Information Technology Management, and am currently the Operations Division Manager for the City of Peoria Information Technology Department. My wife is a CPA by education, and currently handles public housing, HUD grants and other neighborhood service functions for the City of Peoria.

Alice Imig Stipak in California has a large amount of information on the family. Her branch settled in California many years ago. I have not corresponded with her recently, but her e-mail address I have on file is alice@stipak.com.

I sent you a response a while back but have yet to see it posted. This is a very interesting project. I would however like to add a bit to my response, I was in a hurry when I wrote it…

My name is Stephanie, daughter to Kevin Imig, granddaughter to Paul/Jean Imig, and niece to Kurt/Karen/Kathy/Kent Imig. I currently live in San Diego, CA and work as a Customer Sales Rep/ISO coordinator for a corrugated manufacturer. On the weekends I love to play golf (even though I don’t think I am very good, but then again I guess everyone says that about their game), play pool (billiards, now that I am good at!), and sing karaoke. My favorite sports to watch are NASCAR (GO JIMMIE JOHNSON #48) and football (CHARGERS)!

It was a nice surprise to hear from you. I know you asked us to be brief so I’ve contemplated what would be the most important thing I could share with you and all the other Imigs. I guess that would easily have to be believing in Jesus Christ as your one and only Savior. You can find more information at wels.net.

I graduated with a degree in Political Science from UW-Whitewater. I’ve worked for UPS as a package car driver since 1990. Cheryl and I have been married for 15 years and we have three children Kaci (13), Collin (11), and Carter(7).

I also have two sisters Kim (Imig) Kendall and Karen (Imig) Armstrong. My father is Ronald Imig of Simi Valley, CA and my former Grandfather was Herbert Imig from Lena, WI. My Grandmother, Clara Imig is still living here in Milwaukee WI, as is my uncle Gerald and his two sons Nathan and Nick.

I rec’d your note. My wife Sally and I live in Houston. We both grew up in Nebraska and attended the University of Nebraska. My parents were Mr. and Mrs. Leo Imig of Seward and I am the ninth of 10 children.

My Mom passed away 3 days before Christmas at the age of 94. I have two children in college. Jill is a senior at SMU and actually considered going to SCAD. Rob is a freshman at RPI.

Hey Cori-

I got your facebook message about “The Imig Project” – cool idea, what are you studying at SCAD?

I remember trying to make a family tree in 2^nd grade and dad’s (Rick Imig) half of the tree required an additional page to be taped landscape-oriented on the side b/c of the Imig population! He is 9^th of 10 kids.

We have family reunions every 2 years, my brother (Rob) and I fall in an awkward spot b/c we’re the youngest of the grandkids, but older than all the 3^rd generation. This Christmas our grandmother passed away, the coolest thing about this family is that though we live all over, all of the living children and their spouses were there, 19 of the 21 grandkids and spouses were there, and almost all 13 (?) great-grandkids were there.

Anyways, my name is Jill, I’ll be graduating from SMU this May with a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising. After graduation I’ll be moving to Los Angeles to be a strategic planner for 20^th Century Fox’s media company, Zenith Media. Should be fun! Eventually I’d like to move to Colorado and enjoy the outdoors on a daily basis. As far as breakfast, I’m a big fan of Go Lean Crunch w/ skim milk.

Just a heads up, you may already know this, but I was looking at your blog and Otto and Sarah Imig don’t live in Alaska, that’s their daughter Anastasia- who is awesome, she is probably 28 and has traveled the world teaching in Asia, the Middle East, and now Alaska. Cool stories if you can get a hold of her. She’s one of the coolest family members we have. Not that the massive stack from Wisconsin isn’t full of cool people….

Hope your project goes well! You should forward a copy of your thesis or post it online if it’s a positive outlook on the family (hopefully it will be). I’m sure a lot of people would enjoy reading it.

I am writing on behalf of my grandparents Norman and Flo Imig, in Lexington, Kentucky. I am their granddaughter, Emily Bryant, and a freshman at Transylvania University. My grandparents were definitely interested in what your were doing, but at ages 81 and 75, they didn’t really understand the whole senior thesis/blog thing. So, they asked me to email you. We are related and keep in touch with the Imigs around Green Bay, Fort Myers, and Dallas. If there is any other information you’re interested in, just let me know. Thanks for the letter, Cori. What a creative idea! I love how you took pictures of the letters you sent to each state.

My name is Kelly Imig, and I live in Fort Worth, Texas. My parents, Wally and Ann Imig, live in Plano Texas, and my older brother Mark, lives in Rochester, MN.

I grew up in Plano, Texas, and graduated from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. Currently, I’m the Director of Marketing at The Miller Company in Colleyville, Texas.

In my free time, I am involved at Fellowship Church, volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters (I mentor a 14 year old), take weekend trips, and I enjoy running half marathons. I signed up to run my first full marathon in Chicago in October.

If I could choose my last meal, it would be a dessert and Starbucks coffee buffet with choices like Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, chocolate chip cookies, brownies, banana pudding, my Grama’s pumpkin pie, cheesecake, and Oreo McFlurries from McDonalds.

My motto in life is “Move with Confidence.” It applies to almost everything in life…job interviews, exams, asking for a raise, confronting a problem, etc. When you act like you know what you are doing, no one will question you!

Hi Cori! My sister, Cierra Imig, of Denver, forwarded me your 4/14/2008 letter. I’m an Imig (obviously) but I use my married name of Gantz. My folks are Al and Beth Imig of Lincoln, NE. I still live here in Lincoln as well.

My name is Carroll Imig, and I live in central Illinois. My Great
grandfather was with the first group of Imigs to come to America.
Information that I have shows the first property they owned was located
about 1 and 1/2 miles from where I live. I am 4th generation of Imig’s to
live in this township and my grand children are 6th generation. I live
about 1 mile from the house I was born in. I have 3 sisters and no
brothers. I was named Carroll because I was born on Christmas day. My
father was an only son and I was an only son. I have 2 sons and they have a
total of 3 sons. Hopefully my grandfathers blood line will carry on.

Most of the Imigs in this area were farmers. I farmed for many
years and then worked for the Illinois Department of Agriculture. I retired
from there at the end of 2004. I have been involved in politics all my
adult life. I am currently on the county board and I am running for
Tazewell County Recorder of Deeds.

Orin Imig put a book together that traces our family back to 1820 in

I’ve received word of your project. I’m the Michael Imig you attempted but
failed to reach in Alexandria, VA. That’s because my wife and I moved some
years ago back to the Imig “homeland” in Germany. Don’t know how long we’ll
stay, but we enjoy it so far.

My sentence:
It may interest some readers to know there’s an “Imig Street” (Imigstraße) in
Louisendorf, Germany and with Imigs still living on it. Attached, the picture.

I’m writing on behalf of Clara Imig who recently celebrated her 94th birthday in December 2007. Clara was married to Herbert Imig and moved from Green Bay, Wisconsin to Milwaukee, Wisconsin over 55 years ago.

Herbert was a fisherman in Green Bay and became a welder for Caterpillar upon moving to Milwaukee.

Together they raised three children; Shirley, Ronald and Gerald. They also have 7 grandchildren , 9 great-grandchildren and counting:)

One of Herbert’s favorite hobbies was shuffle board which he loved to play. They became ”snowbirds” and traveled to Texas during thew winter months for nearly 20 years where they were able to visit with friends and family while escaping Wisconsin winters.

Herbert had a blessed life and passed away in March of 1989 at the age of 77.

My sister, Linda Imig, just sent me the letter she received from your. My name is Susan Imig DeMuth and I have extensive information on the Imig genealogy. Our branch of the Imig’s came from Rheinbolle, Prussia & eventually settled in Waukesha, WI. – there are others in NE but not related to us. In one of the papers I have the title is “origin of the Imig Name” it states”Dr. Michael Frauenber, in his book Die Bewohner des Obrtamtes Simmern, 1600 -1720 – says that the orgin of the surname of “Imig: is not completely clear. It appears about 1600 & seems to be derived from surnames like “Emmel & Emerich” which are in turn derived from the first names of “Emmerich” or “Henrich:” Guess you don’t need this but it is interesting. I am retired, my husband & I spend 8 months in Plover, WI. & the rest of the time in Brownsville, TX. Good luck on your thesis, if you need additional information please let me know.
